Pf Controller
A Power Factor Controller (PFC) is an essential device in electrical systems that improves energy efficiency by reducing reactive power and optimizing the power factor. A low power factor leads to higher current draw, increased energy losses, and utility penalties. Power factor controllers automatically manage capacitor banks to maintain an optimal power factor—typically between 0.95 and 1.0—ensuring efficient power usage in industrial, commercial, and large-scale applications.

Energy Savings: By maintaining an optimal power factor, Schneider power factor controllers help reduce energy losses and lower electricity bills.
Improved Power Quality: These controllers mitigate issues related to poor power factor, such as voltage drops and equipment overheating, thereby enhancing the overall power quality.
Extended Equipment Life: With efficient power factor correction, electrical equipment experiences less strain and operates more efficiently, leading to longer service life.
Compliance with Regulations: Schneider power factor controllers help industries comply with utility regulations and avoid penalties associated with poor power factor.
Types of Pf Controller
Static Power Factor Controllers
These controllers use fixed or switched capacitor banks to correct power factor without complex electronics. They continuously monitor the system and switch capacitors in steps to maintain near-unity power factor.
Digital Power Factor Controllers
Equipped with microprocessors and advanced sensors, digital controllers provide real-time analysis of voltage, current, and phase angle to deliver highly accurate power factor correction.
Hybrid Power Factor Controllers
Combining the simplicity of static systems with the intelligence of digital control, hybrid controllers offer flexible correction strategies using both manual and automatic modes.
Microprocessor-Based Controllers
These advanced controllers use programmed logic and algorithms to analyze electrical parameters and optimize capacitor switching sequences for peak efficiency.

Enclosure: High-impact ABS or polycarbonate plastics offer excellent resistance to dust, moisture, and physical impact. IP-rated enclosures (e.g., IP54 or higher) protect internal electronics in humid or dirty environments.
Internal wiring and contacts: Copper or aluminum conductors ensure low resistance and efficient current flow. Silver-plated contacts reduce arcing and improve switching reliability in capacitor contactors.
Circuit boards: Fiberglass-reinforced PCBs with conformal coating resist vibration, thermal stress, and corrosion—common in factories and outdoor installations.
Capacitor housing: Metallized polypropylene film capacitors housed in flame-retardant resin provide self-healing properties and long service life under continuous operation.

Working Principle of Pf Controller
Sensing: The controller measures phase difference between voltage and current to calculate the existing power factor.
Decision Logic: Using built-in algorithms, it determines how much capacitive reactance is needed to offset inductive reactance.
Actuation: It sends signals to contactors or solid-state relays to connect or disconnect capacitor stages as needed.
Stabilization: The system dynamically responds to load changes, ensuring consistent power quality even during fluctuating operations.
Installation Guide of Pf Controller
Install Terminal Blocks
Terminal blocks serve as secure connection points between the controller and external components. They ensure stable signal and power transmission while simplifying maintenance.
Wiring and Sensors
Accurate sensing is critical for effective power factor correction. The controller relies on voltage and current inputs to calculate real-time power conditions.
Capacitor Bank Connection
The final step links the controller to the capacitor bank via contactors or solid-state relays, enabling automatic switching of capacitor stages.
Important Notes On Power Pf Controller Installation
Positioning of Current Transformer (CT): Place the CT immediately after the power source (substation, transformer, or switchboard) to accurately measure current from loads and capacitor cells. Ensure the wiring diameter is at least 2.5 mm².
Voltage Measurement Connection: When measuring voltage between two phases, use phases different from the one monitored by the CT. Connect the TC to the controller’s TC1 and TC2 inputs accordingly. For voltage measurement between phase and neutral, connect the CT to the phase being used and link it to the TC1 and TC2 inputs.
Contactor Drive Protection: Each contactor drive should have its individual fuse to ensure protection.
Wiring Separation: Keep voltage and current measurement wiring (CT) in conduits separate from contactor controls by a minimum of 10 cm. Avoid passing wiring through power cable ducts to prevent interference from capacitor currents.
Specific CT Placement: Install a dedicated CT for current measurement (preferably in a xxx/5A transformation ratio). If a measuring instrument with a CT is already in place, it can be utilized, provided the CT signal remains in series with the controller. Ground the CT terminals if necessary.
Supply Voltage and Contactor Connections: Ensure separation between the common wire of contactors and the controller’s power source. Each drive output should not exceed 250VAC/5A.
Optional REP Interface Usage: When using the optional REP interface without CTs and grid voltage connection, electrical measurements for these parameters will reset to zero.
Voltage Application for Measurement: Apply voltage to the measurement input to display both voltage and current parameters in the electrical measurements menu. Failure to do so will result in resetting these parameters to zero.
